More than 1,000 gifts to be given to help military families kick off the holiday season

WHAT:    The Jacksonville McDonald’s restaurants are partnering with Support Military Spouses to hand out gifts to more than 1,000 Jacksonville-area military moms, dads and their children.

Support Military Spouses has seen an increased interest for these events this year. In the past, the Jacksonville event has had approximately 500 attendees. This year, they have more than 1,000 confirmed attendees. This is believed to be a direct result of Hurricane Florence, and the number of military families that suffered great loss during the storm. These gifts may be the only ones their children receive this year.

“Military spouses are often separated from their loved ones during the year, and with the holidays coming up, it can be an especially difficult time to be apart,” said Dr. Steven and Diane Rumley, Co-Founders of Support Military Spouses. “Hurricane Florence affected many of our military families, and by recognizing the spouses and children here at home, who have dealt with the aftermath of the storm, we hope to bring some holiday cheer.”

Not only are local families still feeling the effects of the massive storm, even the non-profit was devastated. When Hurricane Florence pounded the Carolina Coast, it flooded Support Military Spouses’ warehouse, which housed all of the materials needed for the care packages. Fortunately, new and existing corporate sponsors answered the call to help, donating new toys and items so no family would go without a package this holiday season.

Members of the media are invited to join us on Wednesday, December 5that 10:30 a.m. As a long-time partner, McDonald’s will have a special booth offering free breakfast and giveaways to these spouses and their children.
